Are software engineers/programmers/IT offices usually nicer than other jobs?

It all depends on who you're working for. Google and Microsoft will obviously have top-notch facilities, whereas a shoestring startup might be making do with third-hand office space in an industrial area near the airport. The media always take an exception and imply that it's the rule.
