What are some cheap legal and exotic pets?

I would like an exotic animal that Wont bankrup my family but I don't want any bug and i don't want mice or rats I've been looking at hedgehogs but would like to know of some other ones and I would like one that is either a major tank living animal or an animal that like to play a lot and I would like to know about some exotic or carnivorous freshwater fish
