What does it mean if a jalapeno turns orange?

I bought 3 Jalapenos about a week ago, they were green at the time. I pulled them out of the fridge and they were orange! i was confused but not worried. I tasted it and it didn't taste like a jalapeno but did have slight heat to it. it smelled like a bell pepper. after cooking with it (mixed into hamburgers) it didn't have any heat to it at all. Did i get something that was not a jalapeno? is this normal, it has never happened before...
